Co-Chairman: Gerald Meyer
Dr. Gerald Meyer has been politically active since the McArthy era. He protested the war in Vietnam and organized rallies for a number of causes. As a college professor of history, political science, he is a founding member of the faculty at Hostos Community College (CUNY) in the Bronx. Meyer authored perhaps the most important book on the late, great congressman. Vito Marcantonio: Radical Politician, co-edited The Lost World of Italian American Radicalism, has had published over seventy articles and reviews on a wide range of subjects. Meyer serves on the editorial boards of Socialism and Democracy and Science & Society, appears in documentaries, reviews manuscripts for publication, and lectures widely.
Co-Chairman: Roberto Ragone
Roberto Ragone is a Bronx native and a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science and Harvard University, where he read Dr. Meyer’s book and became inspired by the life of Marcantonio. Ragone has over 25 years experience in New York state and local government and non-profits, working in education, criminal justice, urban infrastructure, and arts and culture. He has played the role of analyst, administrator, and advocate. This includes stints at DeWitt Clinton High School, the City Council, Mayor’s Office, and State Senate. As a consultant, he now focuses on marketing, public relations, and strategic planning for businesses, nonprofits, and arts-related projects.
Vice President: Maria Lisella
Native New Yorker, Maria Lisella is a journalist specializing in the travel industry and her work appears in AFAR, Dallas Morning News, FOXNews.com, and other major publications; currently she contributes to the bilingual online newspaper La Voce di New York. Her latest poetry collection, Thieves in the Family was published by NYQ Books in 2014; two chapbooks, Amore on Hope Street (Finishing Line Press) and Two Naked Feet (Poets Wear Prada) were published in 2009. Her work has been nominated twice for a Pushcart Poetry Award, won several Honorable Mentions in the Allen Ginsberg Poetry contests and has appeared in The New York Quarterly, Skidrow Penthouse, and Voices in Italian Americana. She co-curates the Italian American Writers Association readings on 2nd Saturdays (iawa.net); is a charter member of brevitas, the online poetry circle that celebrates the short poem; and is Vice President of the Vito Marcantonio Forum. In 2015, Ms. Lisella was sworn in as the sixth Poet Laureate of Queens, NY.
Treasurer: Adam Meyer
Adam Meyer has been employed in the financial services industry for over 10 years, mostly as a presentation specialist for JPMorgan Chase, the largest U.S. bank with over $2.5 trillion in assets. There he worked on a number of high-profile deals for companies that include the Enron Corporation, United Defense, and WorldCom Incorporated to name just a few. After leaving the investment banking industry, Meyer has focused on lifelong passion in event planning and promotion and is proud to be a founding member and active Treasurer of the Vito Marcantonio Forum.
